Last Class

I LOVED THIS CLASS! I really improved my writing, more so then I initally thought. I enjoyed working with my classmates and having them give me advice and evaluate my work. Professor Potvin was so energentic, friendly and really made the class enjoyable. Mondays I'm at school all day and can't wait to go home and relax, but he was able to make the three hours go by fast. I'm not returning to U of M next semester but if I was I would definately take one of his classes again. I didn't need this class for my major but I'm so thankful that I did stick with it because I was able to improve my writing and find my imagination again. Thanks professor Potvin!

My Nemesis

My nemesis is food. I love to eat, especially junk food. My unhealthy eating habits have led me to get hypoglycemia and now possible diabetes. Writing the paper for class gave me the motivation to take charge of my health and make a doctors appt. I have been too scared to get my blood drawn because I had a tramatic experience with it before. And i dont want to hear the results of the test. Also being potentially diagnosis with diabetes would mean that my diet would have to be regulated much more carefully and cheating with junk food, espcially sweet treats would be more my dangerous for my body.
We just saw a clip on you tube by Ira Glass. He talked about creating an interesting story and presenting that in an exciting way. He had some good points- editing out the boring part of your story or arent relavent to your story. I liked when he said that you are in charge of your story and as a writer we decide what to write and edit out. He has been in the business a long time and knew what he was talking about but watching the clip online and talking so informal seemed to contradict his persona.

Open Mic Night

Overall I thought Open Mic Night went well. It wasnt as scary as I thought it was going to be. Having it in the UC was distracting to me with all the people walking by and eating next to us. Another thing we should do is find a place that was more quiet and have it earlier in the day to draw a bigger crowd. I agreed with my classmates when they said that most students were either in class or had already left to go home for the day. It was a good idea to have this and hopefully it will continue next year too.

book

I liked the random thoughts that came into his head thoughout the whole book because some were really interesting and some were just boring. I knew the boring parts would soon be over and the interesting parts- all the women in his life would just be a short paragraph away. When he made rock star references I would say 95% of them I didn't understand and at times I was able to just continue reading without any real problem and other times I felt completely lost and had no clue what point he was trying to make. That was more frustrating as I got further into the book. For the most part I did like the book but towards the very end I felt the rock references were becoming more common and more indept which was were he lost me. I'm not sure if I would recommend this book or not. I go back and forth with my answer. The rock references really through me off at times but the randomness of the other stories kept me interested in the book. I dont think all those women were truely interested in him but it made for some interesting reading at times.

Killing Yourself to Live

Ugh this book. I dont understand the music references which are becomig more common. I liked the begining alot and now that i'm not understanding the references I'm not so interested in the book. I liked the part when he talked about his family and went to have lunch with them. As I was reading the book I was always wondering about his family. The part when he talked about his mom getting worried when someone was late, reminded me alot of my mom. I also enjoyed the part when he was talking about Lenore, I think i'm more interested in his love life then the rock stars. lol I loved when he was talking about Lenore in such detail when she was ignoring his calls and then the email she sent him at the end was so sad. I felt bad for him! I thought it was great that he revealed so much about how she changed his life and how he felt about her even after reading the email, he didn't trash talk her.

When we first started reading this book, I definately would have encouraged you to continue using this book but after reading it, I have changed my mind. He doesn't explain the music references and I dont understand them. I found myself often skipping over the long section when he made references to bands, especially the led zepplin part.

As you know, I got accepted to Madonna last time I published a post and I am now applying for a scholarship. Hopefully I can get it, everyone wants and could use some free money! The only down dall is that I have to write an essay about why I deserve the money and I feel really weird writing about all my accomplishments and the hard work I put in to school. I dont know why I feel like this. I feel like im bragging and being stuck up... not cool. Hopefully that paper will be done by the end of this week!

Over spring break I had tons of homework, papers to write, and had to study for a history mid-term. Ugh so dumb! I suck at remembering dates and people and events so the mid term was not so easy for me, but hopefully when I get the grade I will be pleasantly surprised :) I would have much rather been in Chicago on a mini-vacation with my boyfriend. Maybe at the end of this semester we can travel or at least go to the cottage for a few days. I just need something relaxing and get away from the the routine of everyday life.

Kevin turned 21 last month and we celebrated our one year together too! I use to think one year wasn't that big of deal until it happened to me. lol I had a wonderful year and continue to have fun with my prince charming, Kevin.

Post Secret

The post secret is a great website that allows people to let out their feelings when they have no one to talk to or just can't talk about something. Some of the posts were really sad and you could feel the pain the author wrote and some of them were funny. Like a poem, the posts were short but had powerful meanings behind them. The one that caught my eye was my boyfriend gave me up for lent. No my boyfriend didnt' give me up for lent but I think my best friend needs to give up her boyfriend for lent. The past few months she has been going through a rough relationship with him and no matter how much I talk to her and say you need to leave him or atleast make your relationship more healthy she doesn't listen. Its frustrating as her friend to watch her happy one day and the next day she spends crying over him. I understand that relationships arent always going to be happy but more often she is upset than happy. Although when I ask her, she says she is happy. It doens't appear that way to me and I think if she gave her boyfriend up for lent it would give her time away from him to really think and decide if this relationship is right for her. There is so much I still want to talk to her about and their relationship but I dont want to loose her as a friend either.

I chose to do a concrete poem, a heart.

Love is a uniquely felt feeling
that is described differently by all. Last
year, I found my true love. My love brings me
comfort that lasts all through the night, he grants me
an eternal smile and butterflies in my tummy. Our
love continues to grow each and everyday in different ways. We made a bond that no
one else measures up to. Three powerful
little words, I Love You, just never
seem enough to express
my love for
you.

My life last week

This week I finally got my acceptance letter to Madonna University! I'm so happy, I can't wait to start the diatetics program there and begin my career. I'm ready to be done with taking all my general classes. Also I saw the movie Dear John. I loved it so much except the ending jsut ended. I guess the director just wanted to leave the end to your interpetation. I took it as John and Savanna were still together and meeting up together. She smiled at him through the window as she waited for him. I cried at the movie but after I was left with a warm feeling in my heart. They had true love and was an awesome movie. Also I found out the my other cousin, Katie is having a baby that is due next winter. My cousin Jennifer baby is due at the end of March. My youngest cousin in going to be a freshman in high school next year so it should be intersting having little ones again running around the house at the holidays. Spring break is coming up in a few weeks and I can't wait to have some extra free time and of course I need to catch up in my classes. Yikes not the greatest idea.

Poems

The first poem that I read was by far the most interesting one, Sam Pink "I am going to jump kick your face and then kiss it"

The title definately caught my attention and as I read it,the poem was getting more and more interesting. It was contradictin itself, the person wants to inflict pain by jump kicking someones face, but then make it all better by kisses. When we are little our moms would kiss our injuries to make them magically feel better. You can't inflict pain on someone wheither its physical or emotional pain and expect a kiss to ease the pain and make everything okay. This poem seemed so violent but the mental picture i got after reading made me laugh too. I was expecting the poem would be more traditional but I liked the fact that it wasn't, to me it was more interesting.

The second poem I read was by Chad Sweeny # 30.

Dance inspires me so this one caught my attention too. After reading this poem a few times i pictured two differen't scenarios. The first one being an amazing dancer performing for a big crowd of people a difficult dance. As she is performing this difficult dance she is feeling pain, discomfort, and fatigue but her face only shows the joy she has as she performs on stage. She gives the audience a performance they have never seen before and as for her herself she can only feel happiness thinking about the journey she has taken to get this good as a dancer. The other scenario I pictured was a girl sitting in the audience watching a dancer and feeling the emotions only a dancer can experience on stage. She is dancing vicariously through the dancer on stage. The girl in the audience experiences the rush of energy as the dance begins, and feels the fatigue after the dance is over. She experiences the emotional journey the dancers has when she is on stage.

The third poem I read was also by Chad Sweeny #20

I felt like the poem was about life and the journey we take. Some people have it easier than other and are handed stuff ( bow and arrow). And some people have difficult obstacles to overcome but they still reach their goal( bully's eye). It was saying that the difficult road isn't easy but its more rewarded when you reach your desired goal. Hardwork will pay off because life is about the journey and lesson learned along the road.

The poem I wrote was:

So pretty in pink
with a little bow
they fit like a glove
I put my best foot forward
so pretty in pink
she glides across the stage.

Inspiration

What is my inspiration? I am inspired by dancing! I have been taking lessons since I was in the fourth grade. It's my true passion and while dancing in the studio I felt like nothing else in the world matter for that time. I was able to leave my stress and troubles behind me and do something that I truely loved. It taught me alot about life, that if first you dont succeed then try, try again. That not only applied to the studio but also to life. Another reason I love dance was it inspired me to try new things and that it was okay if i didn't get it right away. It wasn't alway about succeeding but the journey I took to reach my goal. I the feelings i had while performing in competitions and shows is undescribable. I was in a frame of mind that I couldn't experience any where else. I dont currently dance but I hold close to my heart the memories, the hard times and good one, and the lessons about never giving up on something that truely made me happy.

This week seems so crazy to me, its busy with school and work! :( I just want to relax. I have so much homework, reading, and writing papers to do... not my idea of fun. I am looking forward to Saturday, I get to see my boyfriend. And also we are going to plan our spring break trip which cant come soon enough. We aren't going any place warm this year but at least we can get away for a few days in Chicago. I would love to take off a few days from work this week and next but I need the money to pay off bills from Christmas and now our trip. O well i'm only young once... Why not travel and spend it with great people.

Little Red Riding Hood

The story of Little Red Riding Hood is about the relationship between a young girl and her grandmother. It is clear that they both have a special bond with each other and enjoy spending lots of time together. Her grandmother gave her a beautiful red coat and that is how she got her nick name, Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood took her grandmother who was not feeling well, a piece of cake and a bottle of wine through the woods to her house. Along the way, she is approached by a wolf that has a mischievous plan and distracts her from continuing her journey towards grandmother's house. The wolf manages to distract Little Red Riding Hood and while she is picking flowers, the wolf goes to her grandma's house where he enjoyed a tasty meal, the grandmother! When Little Red Riding Hood arrives at grandma’s house and she isn't anywhere to be found and soon realizes her grandmother is now a wolf. The wolf had just enjoyed her grandmother and now is about to enjoy Little Red Riding Hood. Thankfully a few hours later a hunter becomes concerned about the grandmother and soon realizes the wolf had eaten them and he was able to rescue them both from the wolf’s belly. Little Red Riding Hood learned a lesson that her mom had earlier warned her about, not wandering off the path to grandma's house. With this lesson learned she was able to safely travel to grandma’s house and not be distracted by another wolf ever again.

I love this story because it emphasis the special bond Little Red Riding Hood had with her grandma and the importance of taking care of each other. Another reason I like this story was because earlier in the story her mother had warned her about the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood needed to ignore any distractions and go straight to grandma’s house. Little Red Riding Hood didn’t listen to her mom, became distracted and the outcome of the story could have ended much differently. Her wise mother was looking out for her, and it was Little Red Riding Hood job to listen and obey what her mother had told her earlier that morning. As I got older, I realized the true meaning of the story, that mothers know best and understand life better than a young child. They can see situations and understand them better than we can, and we might not always want to listen to them but they do know best and are just looking out for us.

My twist on Little Red Riding Hood

There once was a little girl who had an amazing relationship with both her mom and grandma and together they would spend lots of time together. Together they would bake delicious pastries, watch movies, tell stories, and most importantly make memories together. For Little Red Ridding Hood's birthday they had all planned to have a picnic at the nearby park one Sunday afternoon. That particular morning was chilly, cloudy and dreary, which wasn’t the best day for a picnic but they still prepared sandwiches, snacks, and made grandma’s famous cookies to enjoy later. With the help of her mom they got the picnic basket and blanket to take along with them to the park. Little Red Riding Hood couldn’t wait to spend her birthday with her mom and grandma and to play on the swings at the park, which she has been looking forward to for a few days now. Before they left for the park, her grandmother gave her a birthday present, a red coat. Of course she loved her gift because red was her favorite color and she needed a jacket to wear on that cool, chilly, fall day at the park. As soon as they got to the park the sun came out and the chilly, dreary day turned into this beautiful Sunday afternoon at the park. The girls had such a great time enjoying their lunch, telling stories, laughing together, and of course playing on the swings with Little Red Riding Hood.
A few days later, her grandma wasn't feeling well and her mother sent Little Red Riding Hood through the woods to grandma’s house. She brought her grandma a piece of her birthday cake, and some milk to help cheer her up and also so they could relive the memories of her fun birthday at the park. This trip began like any other trip except this time she wore her new, beautiful, bright red coat. To get to grandma's house she had to travel through the dark, cold, and quiet woods that were filled with a dangerous wolf. Everyone including Little Red Riding Hood dreaded walking through the woods. The woods were spooky, and gave Little Red Riding Hood an anxious feeling when traveling through to get to grandma’s house. The only thing that kept her traveling back and forth was the love she had for her grandma. But something was different this time when she wore her red coat. The woods changed from this dark and lifeless place to a happy magical forest that was filled with beautiful flowers, green trees, birds singing, and the sun was shining everywhere. Little Red Riding Hood didn't understand how this ugly, scary forest was transformed into this beautiful, bright, colored forest that was filled with the beautiful scent of all the flowers. When she entered the forest, it looked dark, scary, cold, and lifeless but as she looked behind her, life began to appear. She was amazed at the sight and overcome with joy, and thought to herself, " How did this happen?" And then suddenly she realized, she was wearing her new coat. Could this coat have magical powers and really change the forest? That sounds so silly, but it was true! These magical powers were unexplainable, but one great thing that happened was Little Red Ridding Hood's anxiety about walking through the forest was now gone. Instead of being greeted by a wolf, she was greeted by bunnies hopping through the grass, birds singing in the lush full green trees, butterflies all around the enormously large amounts of flowers and a beautiful brick path was paved all the way to grandma’s front door. It was bothering Little Red Riding Hood that she wasn't able to figure out why and how the forest was transformed by her red coat. After spending a long time admiring the forest she finally made it to grandma's front door. She couldn't wait to tell grandma about everything she had seen in the forest and she was so excited that the words weren’t coming out fast enough. As she was telling her grandma everything, her grandma just sat there listening to everything and smiling. She was wondering to herself why her grandma wasn't more concerned or curious about the transformation of the forest, and then at the same time they both looked at each other with a big smile and said, “It must be the red coat." Her grandma knew the coat was magical and told Little Red Riding Hood that fairy dust fell from her coat as she walked through the forest. The fairy dust helped transform the woods and her grandma never wanted the scary forest to keep them apart. She knew her granddaughter deserved the best birthday gift ever. This was a secret that was kept between the two of them and the forest changed only when Little Red Riding Hood walked through this bright, happy, inviting, cheerful place, filled with only gentle, friendly animals and it was transformed only when she walked through it while wearing her red coat that her grandma gave.

Her mom thought this coat was just a normal red coat but that was far from the truth. This coat was no ordinary red coat; it had special powers and an imagination that helped Little Red Riding Hood explore life.

first day

Hey!

This is my first time blogging, and we created one for my creative writing class. It is our first time meeting for this class but so far it seems like its going to be alot of fun. I'm a student at U of M, but transfering soon to go into diet and nutrition. I can't wait to start my classes there!
